Our Second Honeymoon in Santorini, Greece

Oh, Santorini…you had nuzzled your way into our little hearts many years ago, and now that we have finally made your acquaintance and completely fallen head over heels in love with you, forever in our little hearts you will stay.

Jack and I have so many lovely memories and experiences from Santorini that we would love to share with you, so we will break up our stories into a few blog posts! This will be the first. 🙂 Before we even began properly traveling around the world, and when we were extremeley new to Instagram and Pinterest, the very first ever travel inspiration board that we created (other than our honeymoon board!) was one made especially for Santorini, Greece. Santorini was actually one of our original honeymoon choices! This is honestly a destination we never thought we would have the pleasure of visiting until we were much, much older and could afford a proper stay there. Jack and I absolute love our Airbnbs and travel within a small budget as much as we possibly can, but Santorini is the one place that we said we would love to experience luxury in. It has been one of our greatest dreams to spend an anniversary together in Santorini, and this year, for our second wedding anniversary, our dream finally came true!

My love and I were so generously hosted by the wonderful and extremely kind staff at Santo Maris Oia Luxury Suites and Spa in their utterly romantic and magical honeymoon villa. When we first arrived in our room, all of our most favourite, classic love songs were already playing on the stereo. Our honeymoon villa’s Cycladic architecture looked just like a Greek Cavern moulded from a cream-gray coloured clay. Pink rose petals scattered the floor, tea candles and lanterns were lit and trailed into our bedroom where more flowers filled the room, and an adorably intricate swan and heart shaped arrangement of towels and palm leaves adorned our bed. Everything was so tranquil and private, the perfect little hideaway from the outside world. 🙂 The resort even has a beautiful and renowned Spa (300 square meters big!) that is nominated for the Greece’s Best Resort Spa for 2017 Award in the World Spa Awards! (Feel free to vote for them here).

We also had our very own veranda! It was so open and spacious and perfectly overlooked the indigo-painted Aegean Sea…the most exquisite view for Santorini’s world-famous sunsets! We had our own personal stone jacuzzi and personal deck chairs for sunbathing. In our mini kitchen, a bottle of Moet Champagne and flutes waited for us, and chocolate-drizzled strawberries sat on a plate. Jack and I truly felt as though we were on a second honeymoon. (Although, it’s always a honeymoon when I am with my darling.) There was even a large blue infinity pool only a few steps away from our sweet villa. We were so giddy! We were squealing and jumping up and down and danced to the sweet music playing…then came on our most cherished song of all, “The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra, and there it was. Our hearts just melted. This was everything we could have ever hoped for when dreaming of Santorini for so very long.

After we calmed down (barely) about our incredible suite, there was one particular image that was in our heads, and yet, it was only a short 5 minute walk through a private path from our resort — the gloriously painting-like village of Oia. The most famous white village against the dark and unforgiving edge of an active volcano. And now, we were within actual walking distance! Jack shared with me the sweetest story of him when he was a young boy still in school. The very first time he ever saw a photograph of Santorini with its famous blue roof topped churches, he thought to himself, “I’m going to see that one day.” And now, after all this time, it was about to happen and print itself permanently into the gallery of our memories.

On the day of our actual wedding anniversary, we watched the most gorgeous sun go down from the infinity pool at Santo Maris Oia. It felt so intimate and made our memory of it all the more special being secretly hidden away from all of the crowds in Oia. We then enjoyed a delicious Cretan dinner with red wine at our resort’s restaurant, Alios Ilios! How lucky for us, there was the most wonderful piano player hired for the evening playing love songs right by our table. 🙂 For anniversary gifts this year, Jack and I wrote one another love letters. We read them to each other during dinner, and my heart could have just exploded from happiness right then and there.

There is still so much we would love to share with you about our magical time together in Santorini, Greece! And we shall. 🙂 Until then!
